It's the most popular game out there right now. Everyone's playing and it's all over the television. So if you haven't played before you may find it a little too intimidating or be too embarrassed to ask someone to teach you how to play. It's simple. Honest.

First of all there can be any number of people at a table if it's a home game, but at a casino there are nine people seated at a full table and one dealer. The dealer will give you two cards, you can look at these cards at any time unlike in some games. Just be sure you don't flash your cards to your neighbor. Now, two people at the table will already have money on the table before the hand begins. These are the blinds. The little blind is the person directly to the left of the dealer (the dealer rotates position every hand despite the fact the dealer remains in the same seat - an ultimate dealer). The person directly to the left of the little blind is the big blind. The big blind sets out the amount that is the minimum bet on that table. The little blind sets out half of that amount.

Pre-flop play begins with the person to the left of the big blind. This person has to decide whether they want to call, fold or raise. Once they have decided what they are going to do play passes to the next person to their left and continues clockwise with play ending at the big blind. Once all players have called, folded and/or raised the dealer sets one card down to the side, this is called the "burn card", then places three cards face up in the center. These are the "flop cards". After seeing the flop

cards it's up to the little blind to act. The little blind chooses to bet or check. If he bets then it''s up to the little blind to call, fold or raise. If the little blind checks though, the big blind can only bet or check. Play continues around the table in a clockwise manner until all players have had the chance to act. Then the dealer places another card face down off to the side and one more card face up in the center. This is the "turn card". Play continues the same way with the little blind being the first act until he has already folded in which case it would move to the big blind. After the action has ended on this card the dealer places another card face down on the side and one more card face up in the center. This is the "river card". The betting, checking and raising continues until someone wins the hand.
